Publication Charter

1.  Submission of an article or issue

The journal adheres to the ethical and deontological guidelines for scientific publishing. In this regard, the authors attest that:

  • the article is an original article. It has not been previously submitted elsewhere or published in any other medium (book, chapter, website, etc.).

  • the research has been conducted in line with research ethics in the fields of humanities and social sciences.

  • sources of research funding are cited if applicable (ANR, laboratories, etc.);

  • all images used in the article are duly cited, attributed and referenced as per legal requirements. All formalities regarding rights of use, reproduction and distribution of these images have been completed. Proof of this may be requested by the journal.

  • written consent to distribute has been obtained from identifiable persons in any images that appear in the article, or that blurring has been applied in all other instances.

For multi-author articles, the corresponding author guarantees that the co-authors have read the Publication Charter and approved the submitted version and final version of the article accepted for publication (if this is the case).

2.  Assessment procedure

2.1. General information

Assessment of articles includes a double-blind peer review, which is only undertaken if the article has been declared admissible (see below). Admissibility is determined by the guest editor. Double-blind peer review is organized by the Editorial Committee.

Anonymization is carried out at each stage and used for both author and expert names.

The journal undertakes to send authors the review results within 6 months of receiving the article. During this period, the authors agree not to submit their text for publication elsewhere. After this period, and provided they inform the journal, authors can submit their text for publication elsewhere.

2.2. Admissibility of the article

On receipt of an article, the journal’s editorial team (for Varia articles) or guest editor (for thematic dossier articles) makes an initial examination of the article by checking the following:

  • relevance to the journal’s themes and objectives (and thematic dossiers).

  • scientific integrity.

  • editorial quality.

  • compliance with the journal’s presentation standards (page template and instructions).

  • inclusion of all requested elements (identity, email, abstracts, keywords, illustrations, etc.).

Submissions will not be considered if they do not meet the journal’s scientific requirements and standards.

Incomplete submissions or submissions that do not use the page template will be returned to the author to bring it up to compliance standards. An article will only be examined for admissibility once it meets the compliance standards.

2.3. Double-blind peer review

The Editorial Committee organizes the double-blind peer review for admissible submissions.

It is assigned to two experts that have been chosen from internally or externally to the Peer Review Committee.

These experts must not be from the same laboratory or institution as the author. If the subject area limits the range of potential experts, an expert in the subject area of the article and a generalist expert will be selected.

Experts receive the anonymized text in a format allowing them to directly insert any comments into the text. These comments will be anonymized before being shared with the author.

Experts use an assessment sheet structured around the following four criteria: scientific merit, source quality, analysis and/or discussion quality, and writing quality. There are four possible recommendations: in favour of publishing the article as is, minor amendments required, major amendments required, and submission rejected.

The experts must explain their recommendations for each criterion and can also make suggestions for corrections or improvements.

When there is a major discrepancy between two expert opinions, a third expert opinion or an in-house second opinion is arranged.

2.4. Expert Review Report

Once the expert reviews have been received, the issue editor or issue team writes a summary and decides on the next steps for the submitted text. The summary uses the same criteria and is sent to the authors and the experts. Expert assessment sheets are not shared with the authors.

2.5. Review monitoring

If amendments are requested, authors are invited to revise their text in line with the experts’ comments, within a period of one to three months.

If the modified version is not received by the specified deadline, the Editorial Committee reserves the right to not proceed any further.

On receipt of the modified version, the same experts are called upon for article monitoring using the same procedures. Several exchanges between the parties are possible.

The Editorial Committee can reject a text at any time if the amendments do not adequately address the requested changes. This means that a text can be rejected in the first, second or third review phase.

The final decision to accept or reject a text is made by the Editorial Committee.

3.  Proofreading and Publication approval

The journal reserves the right to make editorial changes to any text that has been accepted for publication, for the purposes of stylistic correction or the clarification of terminology.

These changes in form will be systematically submitted to the author for proofreading, validation and approval; the journal undertakes to send authors a “publication approval” for final corrections and verification.

In the event of disagreement, and only as a last resort, the final decision on these form-related aspects lies with the journal.

Once the article has been approved for publication by the journal, it will be made available on the journal’s website.

No amendments can be requested after the date of this publication.

4. Distribution conditions

The journal publishes free, immediate access, open to all, on its website and under the Creative Commons licence CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 (Attribution-NonCommercial-No Derivatives 4.0 International) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/deed.en. By submitting an article to the journal, authors agree to its publication under these conditions.

The journal and the authors undertake to notify one another of their intention to reuse, reproduce or translate the published articles.

5. Open archive repository

Atlantide is published under the Diamond Open Access model.

However, we ask that authors only deposit the abstract and link to the full article so as to avoid duplication and to facilitate the consultation of articles in their original publication space.
